From Books to Bass Guitars; A Look Into Up and Coming Towson Student Band

long has the Towson music scene been perceived as one of the best, it’s reputation being largely influenced by the bands or artists that have gained recognizable success after having originated in Baltimore.A band that has recently gained popularity around campus is student-led band “Class Picture” Well known for their self promotion via “class picture” labeled stickers plastered almost anywhere imaginable.

Members Andrew Nichols, Nathan Gorey, and Jordan Mercer all attend Towson as juniors after graduating from Glenelg High together. The remaining two members, drummer Zac Buete and singer Ethan Salem, attended Hagerstown Community College and University of Maryland and make it a priority to find ways to make it to Baltimore for shows.

The band’s most recent show took place at Charm City Art Space in Baltimore on October 26th, the lineup consisting of Baltimore band “Trunkweed”, Brooklyn natives “Chumped”, “Sport” who traveled all the way from France to participate, and other Towson student led-band “Centerfield”.

Class Picture has successfully networked themselves into the groups of surrounding Baltimore bands such as Have Mercy who just recently finished a tour with labelmates Real Friends and Brigades. The band has mastered a crucial step in the promotion process which is exposure and connections, having toured with over five bands that are now signed with major labels, these Towson boys now have a good chance for being picked up for future tours as supporting acts.

As far as touring goes, the band has ventured as far as Colorado and Utah, completing thirteen shows across the east coast and midwest in a little over two weeks. The band has been steadily touring since their formation in 2012.

As well as touring, another aspect that makes this band bound for success is their diligence and consistency put forth into releasing new ep’s. Having released four ep’s since February 2012, the time and effort they put into making music can clearly be seen in the progress they’ve made.
