This is a Cardinal that was sitting on one of my trees at my house. I thought that its red feathers contrasted beautifully with the white snow on the branches and the ground.

My family went to Myrtle Beach for Christmas last year. One morning my sister and I went for a walk on the beach and this is the view we had as we walked. Breathtaking.

Marilyn Monroe’s lost love letters sell for $121K

Joe DiMaggio’s love letter to Marilyn Monroe has sold for $78,125 at a Beverly Hills auction.

Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills says the letter, written by the baseball great after Monroe announced she was divorcing him, was sold Saturday to an undisclosed buyer.

The letter during their brief, volatile marriage was among 300 items, labeled “Marilyn Monroe’s Lost Archives,” that went up for sale.

A handwritten letter from Monroe to her third and final husband, playwright Arthur Miller, sold for $43,750.

Monroe, who died of a drug overdose at age 36 in 1962, willed the collection of letters to her mentor, the legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg.

On December 1st at the British Fashion awards in London Rihanna, in typical Rihanna fashion, hit the red carpet in nothing but a sexy oversized velvet tuxedo jacket. Yes you read that right, she arrived in nothing but a tuxedo jacket! This certainly isn’t the first time the pop star stepped out in a provocative ensemble. Earlier this year in June the super star stepped out in the an entirely sheer Adam Selman gown that garnered a lot of media attention. The singer’s sense of style has always received mixed reviews from the public, some praising her for ’embracing her sexuality’ while others scold her for her influence on young girls and believe her style of dress to be inappropriate. But love her or hate her, her distinct style keeps us on our toes and has cemented her as a one to watch in fashion.

Want to get Rihanna’s sexy menswear inspired look? Check out some of the items below, they’re bound to get you feeling as fierce as bad gal Riri, I just might suggest to wear pants.

Better Call Saul: AMC’s upcoming spinoff

bettercallsaul1

For all the Breaking Bad fans, AMC has released a tease for the upcoming spin-off Better Call Saul.

Set in 2002, it focuses on the life of small-time lawyer (portrayed by Bob Odenkirk) six years before his appearance on Breaking Bad, though events during and after the original series will also be explored.

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan hinted at a possible spin-off series focusing on Goodman. In a July 2012 interview, Gilligan said he liked “the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law.”

The crime drama television series was set to come out earlier this year, but has been delayed until Sunday, Feb. 8, at 10 p.m. for a two-night premier. AMC has also announced that the series has been renewed for a second season.

Let’s all hope it lives up to the greatness that Breaking Bad has brought to television.

Keira Knightley goes topless!

keira knightley

Keira Knightley has gotten creative when it comes to protesting. In the latest issue of Interview Magazine, Knightley poses topless on one condition; no retouching! She is protesting in response to how she’s been photo shopped in the past. On the promotional poster for “King Arthur,” Knightley’s chest was touched up and enhanced.

Knightley told The Times “I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That shoot was one of the ones where I said: “OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.”

Knightley is one of many celebrities standing up against photo shop and she’s getting her message across quite uniquely.

Whiplash: Movie of the Year Contender & You Did Not Even Know It

Whiplash, a film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, has taken the Academy by storm. The story follows a jazz drummer who gets accepted to one of the top jazz programs in the country, where he is mentored by a stern, aggressive band director who attempts to push him past his limit, as he strives to become one of the greats in jazz.

The movie is a metaphoric representation of the life of Charlie Parker, who had a strict teacher who pushed him extremely hard so that he could achieve greatness. Jo Jones, his instructor, is particularly famous for throwing a chair at Parker for not keeping in time while playing, which is depicted in the movie.

The independent film successfully ran through multiple film festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the “Audience Award” and “Grand Jury Prize” for a drama and has been nominated for other awards at  other festivals including the world-famous Cannes Film Festival in France.  Oddly, when the film came to theaters, it did not get much of a response. Although receiving some of the highest ratings out of any movie this year, being an indie film, it has struggled to reach out to an audience. As a small production indie film, run on a low budget, it has not benefited from multiple advertisements or air time on major networks. They go low cost, hoping for a high reward.

A personal anecdote: I had not even heard of the film myself until a jazz teacher of mine showed a trailer for it in class.

My highest regards for the film include the musical performance, the screenplay, and of course, the acting:

Miles Teller, who plays our drummer-protagonist, has really given a milestone performance in his acting career. He is a self-taught drummer of Rock ‘n’ Roll and, in preparation for the part, spent hours a day with a teacher to learn traditional jazz drumstick gripping along with entire songs that are in the movie to bring a more realistic performance. His ability to play an all-around, “mixed bag” character really compliments his fantastic acting ability. The quirkiness of his flirt, his determination to be the best, his expression of anger towards himself and others, and his awkwardness, sadness, and feelings of pressure as he struggles to impress everyone around him truly absorbs us and translates to a powerful performance.

Then there is J.K Simmons, and let’s face it; this role was made for him. From Spider Man to Juno and finally to Whiplash, Simmons again plays the harsh, uncompromising authority figure – and he is perfect at it.

Whiplash has gotten high appraisal from critics of the Academy, the organization that is mostly in charge of the Oscars and other award shows. According to recent “Oscar buzz” from online, the film is a possible Oscar contender, particularly a “Best Supporting Actor” nomination for Simmons. Awards or not, Whiplash will join other indie greats such as Juno, Pulp Fiction, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Blair Witch Project, as one of indie film’s most memorable movies.

Whiplash has been in theaters since October 15th. Still, but not for long, I recommend that you catch it in one near you.
